Taiwan shifts up an ESG gear in 2024
Taiwan’s Climate Change Adaptation Act took effect in 2023, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050 and introducing a carbon pricing system to drive corporate emission reductions. In August 2024, a domestic carbon trading platform was established, allowing companies to acquire carbon credits through trading or reduction programs. At the same time, carbon fee regulations have been implemented, targeting companies emitting over 25,000 metric tons of CO2 annually. Starting in 2025, listed and OTC companies are required to submit sustainability reports following international standards and ensure the accuracy of information to avoid “greenwashing” risks.
