Taipei Metro enhances comfort with IoT temperature control

To enhance passenger experience and promote environmental sustainability, Taipei Metro completed the installation of an Internet of Things (IoT) system across all train cars in 2024. This upgrade enables independent temperature control for each car and includes remote monitoring functions. The system dynamically adjusts air conditioning based on passenger density, improving comfort during crowded periods. It also automatically adapts to seasonal changes and peak hours, expanding from eight to sixteen operational modes. Additionally, IoT technology has been applied to the lighting system, allowing air conditioning to shut off and lights to dim when trains return to maintenance depots, resulting in annual electricity savings of approximately NT$13.5 million. Serving over two million passengers daily, Taipei Metro leverages smart technology to strike a balance between service quality and energy efficiency, setting a benchmark for sustainable public transportation in other cities.
