Thailand’s Tourism Authority Drives ESG Tourism to Boost Community Income
This article highlights how the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is advancing a community-centered ESG tourism model that generated a 20% income increase for local villages in just two months. The initiative, “Village to the World #SustainableAgenda,” moves beyond one-off CSR activities by embedding sustainability into businesses and capital markets. Through training in management, marketing, communications, and hospitality, supported by collaborations with listed companies, the program aligns corporate sustainability goals with community development, creating shared value for both businesses and local economies.
TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool emphasized that the project not only delivers tangible income and opportunities for communities but also sets new benchmarks for businesses pursuing sustainability. Looking ahead, TAT plans to establish policy frameworks to attract ESG tourism investment, expand community–business partnerships, and build a nationwide sustainability ecosystem. Guided by the concept “Change Unknown to Unforgettable,” the strategy aims to transform authentic cultural encounters into lasting global impressions, ensuring balanced and sustainable growth for Thai communities while positioning Thailand as a global leader in ESG tourism.
