Recent Surveys Show: Have ESG Regulations Become Too Complex?
The 2024 Wolters Kluwer Future Ready Lawyer Survey reveals a significant increase in demand for environmental, social, and governance (ESG) expertise within the legal profession. However, there is a gap in preparedness between corporate legal departments and law firms, with 41% of corporate legal professionals feeling very prepared compared to only 29% in law firms. To address this challenge, 56% of corporate legal departments and 45% of law firms offer ESG training and have established dedicated ESG departments. Corporate legal departments not only lead in ESG but also influence law firms to incorporate ESG into their policies. Despite progress in diversity, law firms still need improvement in areas of inclusion and equity internally.
